Change Your Philosophy…Change Your Life.

Jim RohnI was in my car this morning listening to the late Jim Rohn.  One of my biggest disappointments is that I was never able to meet him face to face.  I feel the next best thing I can do is pass along some of his wisdom.  That’s what I would like to do for you today.

He was talking about different ways someone could increase their pay.  There are some very obvious ways everyone thinks about when trying to increase their income.

#1.  You can wait for your annual review and hope that your company will give you a raise based off performance.  Unfortunately, especially in our economy today, those raises don’t even keep up with inflation.  So even though you make more IF you get the raise every year, most are losing money due to inflation and the decrease in the value of the dollar.

#2.  You could go on strike. We have all seen this on TV and some people reading this may have actually been part of a strike at one time or another.  Most times you may get a small increase in pay or benefits, but the outcome is rarely what you were striving for.

#3.  You could increase your production. Be the first to come into work and the last to leave.  Make yourself so valuable that the company would have to give you the raise you are asking for.  Unfortunately, again, most times you will fall short of your goal of increasing your income.  In fact, most times your boss will expect that type of production from you all the time.  That means less time with your family which is exactly the opposite of what you were trying to obtain in the first place.

I’m sure there are other ways to get a raise or increase your pay, but when you get right down to it, for the most part, they’re NOT going to fulfill the dreams you and your family have.

I know, that sounds kind of bleak, but there is an answer to having everything you could ever want and anybody can do it.

I’ve been studying those that have massive success and they all say the same thing over and over again.  Work on yourself every single day…No matter what. Read at least 15 minutes every day from an uplifting book.  Turn off the TV and get busy personally developing you as an entrepreneur.  Jim Rohn said that “A formal education will get you a job, which is noble, but self education will get you RICH”.

Not just rich by the amount of money you make, but rich in the person you become.  Now, I’m not hacking on our education system, but there is so much more to learn and live than what you get from just a formal education.

If you want to have the lifestyle you have been dreaming of, then you have to pay the price.  That price is self education. That’s the main reason I have chosen to build a business which is dedicated to self education.  It just makes sense.

You will find as you continue to become self educated, your life philosophy will change as well.  Once your philosophy changes you are on your way to getting everything you want and more.  You will be able to do more for others than you ever could have with just a formal education.

Mark Victor Hansen once said “The best thing you can do for the poor is not be one of them”.  That statement has more truth to it than you think.  How can you help others and give to others if you’re just above surviving??

So I challenge you to turn off the TV today and start building your library.  Turn off your radio and put in a CD to start your self education today.

If you don’t start now, then when?

Leave your comments below and let me know about your own journey of self education.

    Glen –

Great post! I love Jim Rohn. He was always so “right on”. Well, I have to say, I took your advice. I turned off the Olympics and listened to Brian Tracy’s ‘Freeway of Life” (again).

    Thanks for the motivation!

Excellent post Glen. Another of Jim Rohn’s little gems is that we must work harder on ourselves than on our business and of course that means continual self learning. I spent a fortune of time and money on marketing education without success until I realized I what I really needed was to spend more time working on me!

I love Jim Rohn also. I have bought a lot of his informational products in the past. Thank you for sharing.

One thing that a lot of people in the personal development industry (and any success/money-making industry for that matter) have in common is that they put more emphasis on making more money instead of spending less.

I think this is because they all want you to buy their informational products…lol

From my experience, I found that you do more good for your own personal finances by getting your self education for free at the library. By doing this you reduce your expenses…increase your cash flow…and have more money to save and invest.

    Much Success,
