Set Goals Like A Billionaire In 2010

2010 GoalsWell, here we are again.  The beginning of a new year and the beginning of a new decade.  It’s time to take a good look at ourselves in the mirror and decide if we like what we see.  Not just physically, but financially, with our family, spiritually, in our community, and any other area in our lives we would like to improve.

I have been studying successful entrepreneurs and why they are successful and others are not.  After all, we all have 24 hours in a day.  The difference between those that reach their goals and those that don’t comes down to how each is spending those 24 hours.  I know you have probably heard that before, but have you ever really let it sink in?  There is more truth in that than you think.

I was listening to Mary Morrissey today and she said something that really hit home with me and I wanted to share it with you as well.  She was talking about setting goals and achieving your dreams and said we all have two choices.  You can either live our life by default, or you can create your future.  It’s really up to you.  She is absolutely right.  If you don’t like where you are in your life now, then write the next chapters in your life and create your own future.

The first thing you must know is where you are going.  That’s where setting goals comes in.  Why is it that some people set the same goals every single year because they never attain them?  The best advice I have ever heard regarding goal setting was from billionaire Bill Bartmann.  He said rather than setting goals, you should make promises.  You have been setting goals and not achieving them for way to long and it’s time to change the strategy.  Rather than say “I am setting a goal to make $10,000/month”  Say “I promise I am making $10,000/month in July, 2010″

Using the word promise rather than goal can be very powerful.  Goals come and go, but promises are meant to be kept.  The word promise has an entirely different meaning and our mind knows it.  When you promise to do something your mind knows you are serious.  So rather than making goals this year, make promises.

One last bit of advice.  Now this you have heard before, be sure to write your promises down.  Instead of writing them down like you have been told in the past, this time write them down like you have already achieved them.  Start your promises with the phrase, “I am” instead of “I will”.  Don’t stop there.  When you are writing these promises out in the “I am” form, be sure you continue with how you feel in that moment when you have kept your promise to yourself.  Explain what it looks and feels like and get into details.

Once you have these promises written out as described above, then you must spend 15-20 minutes every single day reflecting on your promises and really get it in your mind as to what it is like when you are achieving everything you have written down.

I would love to take credit for all these great ideas, but these are strategies I have learned and implemented by studying those who obtained massive success.  These are the strategies that resonate with me and my promise is to share it with you so you can get on track in 2010 and keep all the promises you make this year.
